about me

Halina Valeryeuna Horava was born on May 11, 1972 in Minsk.
She graduated with honors from the Department of Art Design of the Minsk
Arts College named after A.K. Hlebau (1992). Artists Leanid Lapchynski and Vasil
Kastsuchenka taught her. Later on she studied at the Department of Painting
of the Belarusian Academy of Arts (1999). May Dantsyg and Viktar Hancharuk
were among the faculty members and Ales Marachkin was the supervisor of
her diploma project. She successfully completed postgraduate studies at the
Department of History and Theory of Arts of the Belarusian State Academy of
Arts (2007) under the supervision of Hanna Barvenava, Ph.D. in Art History.
Halina Horava has been fully engaged in national and international art
exhibitions since 1996. In 2000, she became a Member of the Belarusian Union
of Artists, Pahonia Creative Association.

She works in the field of easel painting and has created over hundred paintings. Most of her paintings are devoted to the space theme.
Halina Horava’s creative concept is to offer the opportunity to get in touch
with the beauty of the universe. Her paintings, dedicated to space, are an
attempt to visually grasp the space environment – a journey to the planets of our
star system. The artist usually relies on modern astronomical images creating
her cosmic landscapes, however sometimes she constructs completely fantastic
landscapes.

She uses space on her paintings as a theater of constant and
continuous actions, where the plot twists are never less exciting than any
earthly events. The first Belarusian painter-cosmist, Yazep Drazdovich,
is the art ideal and example to follow for Halina Horava. She often
participated in art open-airs dedicated to this famous artist.
Halina Horava defended her thesis on the topic “Evolution of Color
Expression in Easel Painting in Belarus in the 20th century” (2008).
She published the monograph under the same title, as well as “Genesis
of Yazep Drazdovich’s Cosmic Images” research monograph (2017),
“Semantics of Color in Belarusian Easel Painting in the 20th century”
series of articles (2005-2009), and “Color Science” student training
manual (2011). She was employed as an Associate Professor by the
Belarusian State University and taught Color Studies there (2003-2020).
The artist’s paintings can be found in the state collections of
the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the Mogilev
Regional Art Museum, the State Museum of the History of Belarusian
Literature as well as in private collections in Belarus, Russia,
Germany, the USA and France .
